Paradise Hots

Playing Thai Travel Roulette

sunny 54 °C

At 6:30 am, Christina and I found our way to the airport for an impromptu plane ride to Trat, the gateway to Koh Chang. We arrived without a place to stay and within a few minutes of getting off the plane, had found a beautiful bungalow just off the beach for three nights. One more night accomodation missing, but we'd worry about that later.

Lagoons, poolside bars, little bridges and pea fowl pepper the resort. Our bungalow is sparse but cute and comes with AC which is REALLY necessary since it is hotter than all get out right now. It feels about 110 and is sticky and we are tired but happy to have found a place. Sorry doggies! Oh, tank tops allowed here just fine. Although locals do not wear them either.

Christina has just about mastered the language. Her inflection is excellent. Mine on the other hand, has something to be desired. I still try though.

Tomorrow we are taking a two hour elephant ride into the mountains. We may be able to bathe them. No monkeys to be seen yet, although Christina has spotted the sign for the Orchid place.

Too hot to continue. And Thank you Sherman for being the only one who comments. We check this daily and appreciate your support. Hint hint.

Hey Christina (and Amy, too, even though we've never met), I can't believe how often you guys have been able to update your blog. Cool. I just got back from our lovely 4 day break and so finally was able to catch up with your adventure, since I couldn't remember your URL until I came to work. Anyhoo, your trip sounds awesome! Thanks for all the details. I envy you the heat (I awoke to frost on the ground, meaning I had to scrape my car windows and worry about my plants - blech) and, now, the wonderful island of Koh Chang. It's fun reading your adventure. Let us know if find the monkeys.

I had a dream sunday night that you didn't go. It was a terrible dream because somehow it was my fault and you were really mad at me.
This newfangled technology is a blessing for those of us who worry for a living.
I want to see some pictures.

I'm SO glad you're not sleeping on the beach and having your toes eaten off by crabs. you two are amazing.
when you get home, i'm never letting chris go any farther away than grand rapids.

I'm glad you found a lovely bungalow to stay in. Sounds dreamy.
On Sunday, I had skate practice outside. It was my birthday and there I was standing in a circle learning how to get rid of opening bout jitters with the rest of my team. (although I don't have any myself) We're learning some eastern meditational techniques for acknowledging our fears and affirming our strengths. As we stood there tapping on our faces, chests and fingers, while standing in our skates, the snow was whipping sideways. Crazy.

Wish I was in warmer weather. My birthday bbq is ALWAYS cold. Not that I'm a big fan of sweat either. But you girls seem to be having an awesome time. I can't wait to see photos!

Hi Chris and Amy!

Sounds like you guys are having a great time. Here it is NOT tank top weather, so we can't even contemplate if it's appropriate to wear them or not, cause it's not. Keep posting, and we'll keep reading!

P.S. Frickers says hi.

I don't know why you guys keep talking about wanting to see monkeys. When I was in India, I found the reality of monkey-contact to be far less pleasant than what I envisioned. Think little furry street gangs who will mess you up if you look at them wrong.

Although, I must admit, if you put little leather jackets on them, they'd be awfully cute!

Hiya Radish! I am so so glad you are having an incredible adventure. As long as you have an open mind and a credit card (some toilet paper too), the world is at your feet!!
So, no problems with the water/ice?? When I was in Cosat Rica I had ice and tap water and was fine (and you know i have the sensitive tummy from hell).
How has the culture shock been??
Ok, I will write again (i promiseeeeee!!)!
Hi Amy, I have never met you but because you are a friend of radishes I know you must be awesome.

You get a "CHECK PLUS" on your report card for traveling overseas. Happy New Year & best wishes on successful lodging. Those links to the rooms you are staying in are sweet... super fab accommodations! Can't wait to see the pictures :) Paula

Two american girls are sitting on the Thai shore at night, sipping on warm beers. One says to the other... what a beautiful sky, the moon is so bright. The other says... I wonder what is closer, the moon or Seattle. The other one says... Duh? The Moon, we can't even SEE Seattle from here!

Hi Michelle,
Stephanie's purse was stolen yesterday, from the counter by the timeclock at work. She took care of business then, when she was in the comfort of her apartment, which the perpetrator now has keys to, with doors and windows locked, curtains drawn, cat safetly inside (he'd been missing for two days which started her downward spiral), she became hysterical. I was staying at Pam's, so I called her brothers and they went to her rescue. When I called back about an hour later, her brothers were standing guard while she took a bath. Tony, who's living at my dad's (did I tell you that little story) said he'd stay at Sara's as long as necessary. I'll just bet he would....
Pam and I went driving around GR last night looking for for sale signs. it makes me want to move right now.
happy adventuring,
s
